What this data does and doesn't show

  • Every figure is as Brighton and Hove printed it, in accounts that have not yet been audited. Counts in the £100,000 figure are our sum of the council's bands.
  • Comparisons are with the other unitary councils in England read so far; no national figure is published for England.
  • Published list covers the tax year ending 5 April 2026 (not the 31 March financial year). Its Total row as extracted: Basic Allowance £785,604.39; Special Responsibility Allowance £293,365.65; Travel & Subsistence 542.39; Dependent Carer Allowance £750.25; Deduction -£7,556.54; Total £1,068,146.78. 'expenses' is our sum of travel/subsistence and dependent carer. In our reading the printed components do not add exactly to the printed Total; the printed Total is used. The published total differs from the accounts figure (£1.188m), which the council does not reconcile. Basic rate is the full-year Basic Allowance (14,609.40) shown in the list.
